Jaime is working on reconstructing the blog. It's really in need of something more appealing, now that the template designer can be used. Expect it to look a little--errmmm--out of place and strange for a while!

A Little About My Day

Where shall I begin....let's see...

Oh yes, the WORMS. So, I was dusting my shelves today, and then I notice this little creepy looking worm thing. { It looked like this ─> >O,o,o,o,o,o } It was really weird because it had these little hairs sticking out of it's rear. o.O

And then I saw another one hanging on my dusting rag by some sticky stuff... So then I got a little creeped out. I mean 1 of them, ok, but 2! Your pushing my limits!

They weren't really worms though; they were more like baby centipedes. And what I'm really not for liking is that I saw some of those a short while back in my bed...

Here's my Facebook status message on the worm thing if you want to read it:

Courtney A. Robinson says: Ewww is that a worm?! It's a little orange thing with these long hairs coming out of it's rear. Yuck!!! And it was in my room. =/

Courtney A. Robinson
EEEEEEEWWWWWWW!!!!! There's another bigger one stuck to my dusting rag!!!!!

Courtney A. Robinson
The worm is moving....

Courtney A. Robinson
The one worm that was stuck on my rag...well, I cut it off what I thought was some string...but now─erm─the worm is stuck on my scissors, and I don't think that was a string....it was something sticky that got stuck on my scissors...along with the stupid worm...

Courtney A. Robinson
I'm sorry, but this worm thing is creeping me out..... I think I saw some of those when I took my bed out a few months ago... (.) (.)

Courtney A. Robinson
Mom says they're little centipede bugs that hatched in my room. Whew, that's a relief....wait, but what happens when they get bigger, and they're all in my room?! AAHHHHHH!!!!!!!

George Oyaro
Com'on Courtney! They're harmless! Let them stay! What do u think? Say hello to mama.

Courtney A. Robinson
Yeah, I just hope I don't see too many of them in my room.... They're fine outside, but in my room...yuck! =/

And after the whole worm thing, I almost grabbed the dead bug on my desk (I just realized I said "dresser" instead of "desk" on my Facebook status. Woops!) and ate that instead of a twizzler. Whew, glad I looked at what I was grabbing at first!

A short while after this, Annie (our pitbull) walked into my room and pooped all over my floor. =/ That mess was NOT fun to clean up. Ick! Annie had to get a bath too. Luckily Jaime and Will took care of that.

A few hours later, I had to go vacuum out the black truck, and it was really HOT in there. But, that wasn't too bad.

Then, Mom said The Word: SNACK!!!!

YAY FOR CHOCOLATE POPTARTS!!! =Þ

Something Just Happened

Something just happened to my TV the other day. It's really weird. While I was on my laptop, my TV, just out of the blue, turned itself on and off. Next thing I knew, whenever I tried to turn it on, it would stay on for about 30 seconds then flick itself off! Also, for some reason, the TV's VCR (it's built into the TV) has been acting really weird whenever the TV is turned on. It's been opening and closing itself. Now it won't even go back normal; the little cover thing (I don't know what you call it) is sticking partially inside.

Now what am I going to do?

A Dream I Had One Time

I can't remember many dreams but this post is about one that I think I will always remember.

In my dream, there was a boxing match going on at the end of my street. (That really has nothing to do with the dream but it was part of it.) Practically my whole family was there. All except my dad, I think. He was supposed to be at work. Well, I was not overly interested in boxing so I headed on home. (Which looked pretty close to my real house in appearance.) As I was walking up the street I saw my dad coming home and his work truck (he works at James River Air Conditioning and is a Commercial Service Technician. I don't really know what that is but I saw it on some work card and that's what he says he is.) and his truck was on fire! Then I heard him call "Turn off the coffee pot!" or something like that. The first thing that popped into my head was "The coffee pot?!" But since he was my dad I did so. After I turned it off I turned my head and saw a dinosaur in standing in the living room! Terrified, I ran to the sunroom (which we don't really have) and it followed. I closed the door and sighed with relief. It was then that I saw the door knob turning! (It was one of those door knobs that has the thing that you push down. I don't know how else to describe it so I hope you know what I mean.) I just stood there in disbelief. The dinosaur started walking towards me and me backing up. I came to the end of the room where I was cornered. I got down on my knees and prayed to God. I saw the dinosaurs wide open mouth coming down upon my head and then I was awoken by my mom. My prayer was answered!

Kind of a strange dream but it's the only one I can remember. It actually seemed real in my dream though.
That was my dream.

Chocolate Critters

Ever heard of people making chocolate ants for treats? How about chocolate meal worms? Crickets? Grossed out yet? Just tonight after we'd all finished eating our dinner, the subject of chocolate ants came up. Mom then decided to look it up and found some pretty gruesome stuff about it on the internet. Here's a picture of packaged chocolate crickets and meal worms. Yuck!

If you're interested, these can be purchased at InsectCandy.com for only $4.50! What a deal! Kidding.

Below I'm going to list some pretty buggy recipes, so if your totally grossed out already, you might want to stop reading.

Mealworm Chocolate Chip Cookies

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup mealworm flour

Cream butter well, then mix in sugar, egg, vanilla flour, salt, baking soda, chocolate chips, oats, and mealworm flour. Drop batter by the teaspoonful on a greased cookie sheet. Bake for 10 minutes at 375 degrees farenheit. This recipe doesn't have much in the way of palpable insect content, but is an excellent way to introduce others (or yourself!) to entomophagy. Even many rather squeamish people will try mealworm cookies, since the cookie format doesn't look "gross" to most people, and since it is rather difficult to actually taste the mealworms, though they enrich the cookie with a somewhat nutty flavor and extra protein.

To make insect flour:

Spread your cleaned insects out on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Set your oven 200 degrees and dry insects for approximately 1-3 hours. When the insects are done, they should be fairly brittle and crush easily. Take your dried insects and put them into a blender or coffee grinder, and grind them till they are about consistency of wheat germ. Use in practically any recipe! Try sprinkling insect flour on salads, add it to soups, your favorite bread recipe, on a boat, with a goat, etc.

Chocolate Covered Crickets

  • 25 adult crickets
  • Several squares of semisweet chocolate

Prepare the crickets as described above. Bake at 250 degrees until crunchy (the time needed varies from oven to oven). Heat the squares of semi sweet chocolate in a double boiler until melted. Dip the dry roasted crickets in the melted chocolate one by one, and then set the chocolate covered crickets out to dry on a piece of wax paper. Enjoy! This is a little time consuming to make, but definitely worth it...the crickets are deliciously crunchy!

Ant Brood Tacos

  • 2 tablespoons butter or peanut oil
  • ?
  • 1/2 pound ant larvae and pupae
  • 3 serrano chilies, raw, finely chopped
  • 1 tomato, finely chopped
  • Pepper, to taste
  • Cumin, to taste
  • Oregano, to taste
  • 1 handful cilantro, chopped
  • Taco shells, to serve

Heat the butter or oil in a frying pan and fry the larvae or pupae. Add the chopped onions, chilies, and tomato, and season with salt. Sprinkle with ground pepper, cumin, and oregano, to taste. Serve in tacos and garnish with cilantro. (Not living in an area exceptionally prolific with ants, I have never been able to try this recipe. But it sounds perfectly delicious! I found it in 'Creepy Crawly Cuisine', an excellent recipe book.)

"Natural Style"

  • As many mealworms as you can sanely eat

Open mouth. Insert live mealworms. Chew. Swallow.

You can eat almost every kind of edible insect raw; however, this method of eating insects should only be performed on insects that you keep yourself or know are free from pesticides. Do not snag passing cockroaches, ants, or termites in an urban area unless you have developed a natural immunity to pesticides. And don't forget to wash your insects before eating them!

What do you think? You ready to crunch down on some chocolate cockroaches, mealworms, or crickets? How 'bout an ant larvae taco? I know I'm not! And I'm definitely not trying the "natural style." How gross!
